I love calling them “Team Freedom” because of how serious some people take the Men’s hockey at the Olympics. If we don’t win gold, then freedom itself has died.
Even though they were leaked about a month ago, Hockey Canada officially unveiled the jerseys that will be worn by the Canadian Men, Women, and Sledge Hockey teams when they hit the ice in Sochi in February 2014. Not surprisingly, not everyone is happy with the way they look, and Twitter went a little nuts yesterday…
Some people were calling them Petro-Canada jerseys, which is actually kind of funny. The only real issue I have is the 3rd, or alternative black jersey that will apparently be used at some point during the tournament. It lacks the maple leaf, and it lacks imagination as well. I get that people like black jerseys, but in this case I don’t think it’s necessary. Plus, Canada will be the only nation at the Olympics that have this third option, so I think they should gas it. It’s pretty much just a marketing ploy anyway, isn’t it?
But really, when it comes down to it, do we care what the jerseys look like when something magical like this happens?
