Getting to be that time again. When loads of friends and family start showing up and need to be entertained.
It's a mixed emotion--the house full of visitors. Not an easy task to be the prefect host when you get up at 4:30 am and cook actual breakfast--and don't WANT to share it with others--who should still be sleeping. But it sure is fun to show people our island. In fact, one of the true joys of life in Victoria--once you've reached the point of being a local and have started to take it for granted--is seeing it through the eyes of someone who has never seen it. This boatload of folks contained a woman from Australia, a couple from the Kootenays, a prairie girl just back from Africa and a giant farm boy turned island boy who had the need to wave at the camera.  Hey--I was excited about seeing whales again. Yes, that is Shannon in the front seat, not knowing what to expect. The smiles never faded.
That'd be island life.
